A Daring Endeavor

Seattle Opera's 1986 production of Wagner's Der Ring Des Nibelungen was unlike any before. With actual flying horses and real fire setting the world ablaze, it was THEATRE writ large. And they let me record eveything from costumers to carpenters, directors to conductors, singers to designers, and Valkyries suspended on swinging horses while stage hands worked out the intricacies of controlling them. It was a massive undertaking for both the Opera and myself. I ended up with tens of hours of video tape to be boiled down to 30 minutes. The result was nominated for a regional Emmy and was a HomeTown USA Video Festival winner.

Nominations are chosen by a panel of experts in each category from submitted entries. These are then submitted to other chapters for judging.
